Nokia announces official Qt port to Maemo 5

Friday, October 9, 2009

Nokia Company officially announced the port cross-platform Qt framework for a software platform Maemo. This means that the toolkit will allow developers to create both native and web applications and services for operating systems Maemo 5, and then easily port them to a future Maemo 6 as well as Symbian and Windows Mobile.

This step will allow Nokia to expand the use of a software platform Maemo on various devices (including the eagerly anticipated by many users, internet tablet N900) and lead to a growing list of applications for this operating system based on Linux. Experts believe that porting Qt to Maemo framework makes the Finnish company even closer to an era when mobile devices will be different not hardware and software platform, and ability to work with different applications and Web services.

Technology Preview port Qt framework is already available for testing and final release based on Qt 4.6, should appear in the first quarter of 2010.
