Six-core processor AMD Thuban - in the second quarter of 2010

Friday, October 30, 2009

Company AMD is ready to compete with 6-nuclear desktop processors Intel Gulftown using a similar design - the chip Thuban (tuba), named in honor of the stars in the constellation Draco. Thus, AMD is sticking to tradition - to give the names of the new processors on the names of various astronomical objects. In confirmation of this can be reduced even chips Deneb, Heka and Callisto.

We have already mentioned that the 6-core processor AMD Thuban will Edition server chip Opteron (Istanbul), designed for desktop computers. It will be created on the 45 nm technology (remember, Gulftown will be 32 nm chip), DDR3 1333 support and interact with socket AM3. In addition, the desktop CPU will get 6 MB of cache memory, and its clock speed is probably higher than in the chip Istanbul. Also reported that the release of AMD Thuban is scheduled for the second quarter of 2010.
