Hardware Platform ST-Ericsson U8500: more multimedia for mobile devices

STMicroelectronics and Ericsson have submitted a joint development - hardware platform ST-Ericsson U8500. It is designed for mobile devices such as smartphones and communicators, and possibly MID. The solution is compatible with multiple operating systems, including, Symbian and Android. ST-Ericsson U8500 includes everything needed for a modern mobile device components: CPU, graphics, wireless modules, support for cameras and so on. Platform, in the first place, multimedia, that is, provides ample opportunities to work with graphics and video. STMicroelectronics and Ericsson have not yet said when the come out models based on the new platform.

Characteristics of ST-Ericsson U8500:

  • Processor: ARM Cortex-A9 MPCore SMP
  • Graphics: ARM Mali-400 (OpenGL ES2.0 and OpenVG1.1)
  • Supported operating systems Symbian, Android and Linux
  • Supports up to two high-definition cameras
  • Supports up to two displays simultaneously
  • GPS module
  • Wireless: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and HSPA
  • Ports: USB 2.0 and HDMI
  • Support touch screen with a resolution up to XGA
  • Supports 1080p video
  • Mobile TV Receiver (optional)
