Seagate announces its 7mm-thick Momentus Thin HDDs

Monday, December 14, 2009

Currently, all leading manufacturers are preparing their new products to CES, 2010, which will be held in the U.S. Las Vegas. However, the company Seagate, ranked first in the world to produce hard drives, did not wait for the beginning of January and has now officially introduced its new line of 2.5-inch HDDs Momentus Thin.

New Momentus Thin hard drives are designed for use in notebooks and netbooks and differ very compact dimensions. Suffice it to say that the thickness of these devices is only 7 mm, which is 25 percent lower than a standard hard drive form factor 2.5-inch (9.5 mm). This is especially important for mobile computers, which are fighting for every inch of volume.

Seagate Momentus Thin Hard disks have a capacity of 160 and 250 GB, the working speed of 5400 rpm and a buffer memory in the volume of 8 MB, and to connect them to the system interface is used SATA 3.0 Gbps. Seagate promises to start deliveries of its thin hard drive Momentus Thin system integrators and OEM manufacturers in January next year.
