Kaspersky Lab: in 2010 the participation of attack via file-sharing networks

Wednesday, January 27, 2010

Kaspersky Lab has published an annual analytical reports on the development of computer threats and spam in 2009. The main trends of the past year was the further complication of viral technologies against the backdrop of relative stabilization of the number of new malware, the global epidemic, as well as the emergence of new Internet fraud schemes.

As the company over the past year, technology virus seriously complicated. Programs equipped with rootkit functionality, not only widespread, but also made significant strides in its evolution. Among them stands out such threats as Sinowal (bootkit), TDSS and Clampi. Also, last year's forecast of experts "Laboratories" to increase the number of epidemics is fully justified. In 2009, the level of global epidemics were able to achieve not only the TDSS, Clampi and Sinowal, but also a number of malicious programs. The epidemic began, the worm Kido (Conficker), has hit more than 7 million computers worldwide.

Over the last 3-4 years, China has become the leading supplier of malware. In 2009, Kaspersky Lab, there were 73 619 767 network attacks, more than half of them - 52,70% - were carried out with internet resources located in China. Nevertheless, in 2009 changed its direction vector of attack: China still leads in the number of potential victims, but its share has decreased by 7%. But other leaders of the past year - Egypt, Turkey, Vietnam - have become markedly less interesting cybercriminals. At the same time significantly increased the number of attacks on U.S. citizens, Germany, Britain and Russia.

In the past year have become increasingly diverse and fraudulent schemes used on the Internet. The traditional and very popular phishing add various sites offering online access to "services". Palm belongs here, alas, Russia. It is Russia's crooks put on stream creation of sites with a proposal "to find out the location of the person through GSM», «to read private correspondence in social networks," to gather information, "etc. In 2009, fraudsters have continued to grow in popularity psevdoantivirusov. Today, for the distribution of fake antivirus programs are not only other malicious programs (such as, Kido), and online advertising.

Despite the crisis, spam mail have not diminished. Global volumes of unsolicited mail have increased, but only slightly - an increase of 3,1%, and the average percentage of spam in mail traffic in 2009 amounted to 85,2%. U.S. remains the leader in spam-rating - 16% of all spam messages come from North America, Russia is followed - 8,5% of all spam is Russia's roots. The main novelty in the field of spam tricks can be considered using the service YouTube. Another spam-a novelty in 2009 was a letter from the mp3-attachments.

In 2010, experts from Kaspersky Lab expect a gradual shift of the vector of attacks on visitors: from attacks through web sites and applications in the direction of attacks via file sharing (P2P) networks. The complexity of malware will increase considerably. According to prognoses, will grow and the number of malicious programs targeting the iPhone and mobile devices running Android. A situation similar drop in the gaming Trojans, again, this time with fake antivirus.
