What can we expect from video cards GeForce GTX 400 series in terms of performance?

Friday, February 26, 2010

We have already reported that NVIDIA has plans to present its new series, GeForce GTX 400 gaming event on PAX East, which will be held in late March in the U.S. Boston. Recall that in this line includes models of GeForce GTX 480 and GeForce GTX 470, which promise to become the first graphics cards, NVIDIA, built on the basis of Fermi architecture and equipped with technology to support DirectX 11.

Although up to debut a series of video cards GeForce GTX 400 is still a whole month, a Turkish site DonanimHaber already published some of the characteristics of these adapters, from which one can construct predictions about their performance. The resource at the same time refers to some sources, "having access to the data model of graphics cards.

According to published figures, boosters GeForce GTX 480 and GeForce GTX 470, as previously thought, made on the basis of the chip GF100, which includes 512 nuclei CUDA, 16 geometric blocks, 64 texture units and 48 blocks ROP, as well as 384-bit bus memory.

However, GeForce GTX 480 is a fully functional solution, while the GeForce GTX 470 features several curtailed. For example, in the low-end model will be available only 448 or 480 nuclei CUDA, and GDDR5 memory it is connected to the GPU for a few more narrow (possibly 320-bit) interface.

Output adapter GeForce GTX 470, according to information from the same sources, will be between competing rates of the ATI Radeon HD 5850 and Radeon HD 5870 and the TDP of this model is equal to 300 watts. At the same time, the GeForce GTX 480, as expected, only slightly outperforms the speed of the current flagship of the NVIDIA - GeForce GTX 295, at least in the existing applications. Interestingly, the card GeForce GTX 480 has already appeared in price lists and is available for pre-order for $ 699.
