14.6 megapixel CMOS sensor for Toshiba phones

Thursday, October 29, 2009

Toshiba Corporation today announced a new CMOS sensor designed for use in digital cameras and mobile phones. This sensor has a resolution of 14.6 megapixels and is equipped with the technology back illumination (BSI). Using this technology, the luminous flux passing through the lens, is directed to the back surface of the sensor, where it is freely absorbed by the photodiodes. At the same time in the conventional matrix light falls on the front part, where its absorption is limited to existing strapping.

According to Toshiba, the use of technology has enhanced the rear lights, the sensor sensitivity and its rate of absorption of light by 40 percent compared with existing models. And this, in turn, increases the quality of the photographs, making the image brighter. By the way, BSI technology has been successfully used in their products by such well-known companies as OmniVision and Sony. Moreover, the use of back lighting not only improves image quality, but also to maintain a compact physical size of the sensor with an increase in resolution, which is especially important for cellular phones.

The first samples of 14.6 megapixel CMOS sensor from Toshiba technology to support the rear lights will be dropped from the assembly line in December, and their mass production will begin in the third quarter of 2010. Also reported that when new sensors will be used the 65 nm process technology.

I'm not sure why but this site is loading incredibly slow for me. Is anyone else having this problem or is it a problem on my end? I'll chеck
baсκ later and sеe if the problem stіll exists.
