The exhibition Electronic Manufacturer Exposition (eMEX) in the Chinese city of Suzhou company S3 Graphics has demonstrated its latest development - energy efficient GPGPU processor Chrome 5400E. As stated, this processor is designed for advanced embedded graphics solutions, is able to provide a high level of functionality, performance and stability, and is quite long lasting product.

The new chip Chrome 5400E in a compact BGA package with dimensions of 23 x 23 mm. It is made by the 65 nm process and supports bus PCI-Express x1/x4/x8/x16, as well as DDR2 memory and GDDR3. Built-in programmable engine ChromotionHD 2.1 provides hardware acceleration when working with video formats H.264, MPEG-2 HD, WMV9-HD and VC-1. In addition, there is a "native" support for two dual-link LVDS, as well as two ports of Dual-Link DVI, DisplayPort and HDMI with the function of HDCP. A programmable unified shader architecture (Unified Shader Architecture) gives Chrome 5400E opportunity to support modern technologies such as DirectX 10.1, OpenGL 3.1 and OpenCL 1.0.

In addition, S3 Graphics promises to implement for Chrome 5400E-level support drivers in operating systems such as Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows CE, and Linux distributions on the kernel 2.6.xx.
