Up to 80% of business applications are not fully compatible with Windows 7

Despite efforts by Microsoft to implement the compatibility of existing applications with Windows 7, the problem is still quite relevant. For example, the results of testing a London company ChangeBase, from 60 to 80 percent of business applications require some degree further development to ensure full compatibility with the new operating system. These data were obtained from the test results of several thousands of programs that are used in 20 large firms.

One of the leaders ChangeBase John Tate (John Tate) said that the problem of compatibility of third-party applications is one of the most important for Microsoft, seeking to transplant users from Windows XP to Windows 7. Despite the fact that the situation since Windows Vista has improved slightly, software companies still have much work. Note that this problem is not the one and only Microsoft is common in the interaction of software development companies and consumers.

However, not always the problem of compatibility of the software used with the new operating system takes sharp. Some companies are quite capable to find a replacement of incompatible applications or do not use their full functionality. In addition, similar problems occur even when moving to Windows 7 with Windows Vista, much closer to the internal architecture. Approximately 7 to 12 per cent of applications running on Windows Vista, is incompatible with the new operating system.

According ChangeBase, compatibility problems are encountered among the finished software, and have applications that are written by specialists of the company itself, although the majority of difficulties encountered relate to the latter type of program. In addition, there are a number of so-called packaged applications, in varying degrees, incompatible with Windows 7. However, specific names are not given.

ChangeBase produces software AOK, through which it is possible to identify and resolve most compatibility issues. It is reported that with the help of this tool can be compatible, even legacy applications. Nevertheless, five per cent of problems are not amenable to eliminate even with the use of this software.
